So exciting! I cannot wait to see more!

Another interesting note, I have not received my email from Funcom “revealing all” like they said. Whether they have not sent it yet, or it really is a Beta key. 😉 Another thing is that they used nothing but LEGO Universe music in their trailer (like the Beta Pirate Camp, and alpha disco music, and of course, the theme song)… This looks more like what LEGO wanted LEGO Universe to be in Alpha!

Update: Funcom just sent out their email announcing the news. Here’s what it says:

Funcom is excited to reveal LEGO® Minifigures Online!

Get ready! The minifigures are coming! Funcom is excited to finally unveil details, screenshots and the first ever trailer for its upcoming ‘LEGO Minifigures Online’ game to LEGO fans and gaming enthusiasts across the world. Based on the hugely successful LEGO Minifigures brand, ‘LEGO Minifigures Online’ brings the small, colorful characters to life in their own adventure-filled online world during the second half of 2014.

While primarily geared towards kids, ‘LEGO Minifigures Online’ will deliver both gameplay depth and loads of that crazy fun which makes everything LEGO such a universally enjoyable pastime among the young at heart everywhere — whether they are ten, thirty or fifty years old!

Just think about it: most of us have fond memories of LEGO bricks in all the colors of the rainbow strewn about our childhood bedroom floor. These plastic bricks were – and still are – the building blocks of the worlds that we created from our very own imagination. While these are but childhood memories for some, many of us still lose ourselves in imaginary worlds; some made up by LEGO bricks, others by bits and bytes.

In ‘LEGO Minifigures Online’ you once again get to visit Pirate World, Space World, Medieval World and many others, as you play together with thousands of other players while collecting minifigures and developing their unique and powerful abilities. Smash, build and collect — thousands of exciting adventures are just a brick away in ‘LEGO Minifigures Online’!

“We could not be more excited to be working with LEGO on such a great franchise. I think you could even say the team has been training to make this game since we were little kids,” says Lawrence Poe, Executive Producer on ‘LEGO Minifigures Online’. “That excitement carries over into everything we do, and we’re throwing every ounce of our passion and creativity into the game. We are one hundred percent focused on delivering the fun, safe, quality experience that people expect when they think of LEGO minifigures.”

‘LEGO Minifigures Online’ will launch on PC, iOS and Android during the second half of 2014. In addition to being available as a full-fledged, DirectX 11 PC client, the game will also be playable in a browser through new technology being developed by Funcom for its proprietary DreamWorld platform.

  1. I’ll Be interested to see how the compatibility between mobile and computer works. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a game that has done something like this on this level before especially if it lives up to the standards set by Lego Universe. 😀

  2. Thanks for the reporting the bit about not receiving any emails from Funcom. It kept me from worrying I wouldn’t get into BETA. 😛

I’m quite excited about this new MMO. I really want some minifigure customization or something similar to properties though…

  3. I for one am not disappointed by the use of music from LEGO Universe. From what all we know about pre-alpha LU, this could easily be what that was supposed to be. The usage of the music only re-enforces that point. And if they do use that music in game, from pre-alpha, alpha/beta and final, I would be perfectly alright with it.

    LONG LIVE THE MINIFIGURES! 😀

  4. Has you also not gotten a mail, i thought that were only me. There could be a chance, since then the message could just be automaticly generated including that article that you posted the link to, but since they did not do that do i think they will send them mail manually, and on that way giving the Beta Key. I do not know how people got the beta key access in Lego Universe. Do anyone if this counts as the “closed” or “open” beta? Is there anything famliar to the NDA aggremment released yet? I know it is a early thing to ask for, but i want to be on the safe side.

Based on the screenshots to the game has much more details added to it than the Lego Universe, as still it is just the Beta, so it is still well-done. It got me intersted to play the game, but the images does not look like in-game screenshots. They look more like posters.

Plus i like the badge you added to the blog, i like the details and the shading on the on the minifigure.

    • Not sure if it is going to be open or closed beta. Personally, I want it to be closed Beta, because games get more bug reports and better ratings because just anybody can’t just logon and point out the mistakes of the game (even though it is still in beta). There is no NDA yet, because there is not alpha or beta yet.

Yes, they have lots of details. It is a different engine, and it’s got different shading. Personally, I liked the LEGO Universe engine better, but that’s just my opinion. 😉

They are in-game pictures, not sure if they are touched up more than the real thing, but they look like they are in-game screenshots. If they were renders for posters, they would be better quality (as in a higher poly minifig and such like they did in the trailer).

What “badge” on the blog? I am not sure what you are referring to…

      • That with the “I participated in the Lego Universe Founder release” image. It looks just great.

Personally, no offence, but i do not like LEGO having the soundtracks of Lego Universe in the game. The soundtrack itself is good, it is just that it does not feel original. For me i would like to experience new varianties than just listening to the same score over and over again. It gets boring and a little annoying to hear the same thing over and over again, especially if it is the theme song of the game.

Plus i would liked the in-game part of the trailer be more than the cinematic ones, even though there were some in-game screenshots but it were rarely. I agree, the game engine is Lego Universe is my faovurite game engine so far that i has expierienced, besides third person perspective games is a part of the modern game play after all, or i think so at least.

If i would had to choose between Chima onlnie and lego minifigure would i choose lego minifigure. Since there is more detailed animation. Lego has puted new mechanics in the game, such as that you can add minfigures that you bought in real life to the game. And even thought the game engine is not one of my favourite, do the many options and colourful and detailed graphics make up for it.

    • Well for LU there was a Beta application or a Beta sign up page where filled in your age, game experience, etc.
It wasn’t too detailed but you also gave them you email address. Beta keys were sent in waves, a very small and then a huge one, and not everyone was let in. For Chima beta they did a facebook thing.
I believe all the need for beta keys is your email I just want to know if i’m already in a list to receive one or if I need to sign up somewhere else.

    • I did not make that “Founders Release” image. It came from LEGO Universe.

I agree, this one is so much better than Chima. I just hope it doesn’t use too many micro-transactions…

  5. lol Me and you have very different styles when reporting the news 🙂
I’m excited. The trailer was a highlight for me though see the game potential… oh gosh memories.. ahh I’m done now.

    • Yea, I liked the trailer too, but as I said, it was kind of disappointing that the good ol’ LEGO Universe music was used… But oh well, I’m still excited for the game! 😀
