Shortly after the announcement of LEGO Minifigures Online this morning, Gamespot released a video of a developer talking about the new MMOG. You can watch the video here:
Here’s a summary of the video:
- LEGO Minifigures Online will be avalable on PC, web client, Android, and iOS.
- Friends and Family Beta started in July, and is still live. More betas will be released as they move closer to their launch.
- It is a “top-down isometric game”. Uses the mouse to maneuver.
Very kid friendly action and adventure with easy controls.
- Player can use 3 easily switchable minifigures at a time. Each minifigure has 2 abilities.
- Each minifigure has a different building ability level. For example, Cyclops is a slow builder, and DJ is creative and a fast builder.
- Each themed world will have a minifigure hero for each world.
- There will be close to 100 minifigures released at launch with a special series created specifically for the video game. When people buy a minifigure, they will also get a code to enter in-game and start playing as their new minifigure.
- Building is used in Boss fights and PvP.
- Dungeons are instances for you and your group (group sizes are up to 4). You can team battle in dungeons.
- The Fairy is currently the highest powered minifigure in the game.
- All brick models in-game are made in LEGO Digital Designer.
- Quests are more open, and don’t have a distinct mission, but you have to figure it out yourself.
- Soft Grouping: If multiple people have the same mission in the same area, and one person does something (like smashes a monster), the other person gets credit for it too.
- It will be a “light and fun” game and “you don’t have to wait around for things”.
- “As much as LEGO is about building, it’s as much as breaking things apart.”
- Stars are a form of currency used to level up any minifigure you own.
- Leveling up minifigures will make abilities more powerful, and raises the effects of our abilities.
- The game rewards players who try to get as many minifigures as they can, find the combinations between minifigures they like the most, like a battle team they like to bring to certain situations.
- They even have LEGO clouds!
- The director loves lava and would like to put lava in his house if he could.
- The camera changes angles when you are about to fight a boss.
- Building will always be a strategy when defeating a boss.
- Medusa is a boss in the mythology world (to defeat her, you have to build a big mirror)
- When you defeat a boss, mini-boss, exploring the worlds and completing missions and earning achievements, or “get lucky and find one in a chest”, you get a “Minifigure Bag” reward. You unlock a new minifigure, but it is random and you do not know who you will unlock.
- Skeletons are one of the many enemies in the game.
- Even sculpted monsters follow the LEGO building guidelines.
- There are light and humorous elements even in the dark parts of the game to keep it light and funny for younger players.

What a treat to hear the LU music again. I can’t wait to play the game. I can’t seem to find the link for signing up for the Beta. I am a bit disappointed that they didn’t contact the LU subscribers to access the Alpha or Beta first, but nothing matters really except for the new to launch. It looks fun. I hope they have racing. Thanks for posting this. You made my day.
